As the holiday season is fast approaching, PEP is partnering once again with the Rhode Island Community Food Bank to raise much needed funds to help those who suffer from food insecurity. Please help us reach our goal of $2,500.
- 1 in 6 households in RI don't have adequate food.
- 66% of households that visit food pantries include a child (0-17) or senior (+65)
- Each week the Food Bank moves more than 225,000 pounds of food to 150 agencies that directly serve Rhode Islanders in need. These agencies include food pantries, meal sites, shelters, youth programs and senior centers.
- 90% of all food distributed is considered "core food" - healthy foods, including vegetables and fruit, bread, grains, protein, beans & dairy, which can be used to prepare a nutritious meal for a family.
- Currently, the Food Bank is serving more than 54,000 Rhode Islanders each month through these agencies.
- The Food Bank solicits food donations from the public and from the food industry, including supermarkets, food manufacturers and growers. To keep up with the high demand for food assistance, the Food Bank also purchases food at a low cost from wholesalers.
- Last year, the Food Bank distributed 15.1 million pounds of food, including 2.5 million pounds of fresh produce.
