Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My dad, Neil, died on 10.09.2014 at the age of 63 from metastatic prostate cancer. He had been diagnosed 18 months prior to this, and it was already advanced when it was diagnosed, and his prognosis was poor. It was an incredibly aggressive cancer, and with the current limited treatment available to him, he didn't stand a chance.
I'm a doctor, and I had to stand by and watch him deteriorate, completely powerless to change the course of his illness or the inevitable conclusion.
I'm running Race to the Stones (www.racetothestones.com), a 100km ultramarathon to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.
When dad and I had our last conversation before he died, we spoke about visiting Avebury and how much we both loved it there. So this race, finishing in the neolithic stone circle at Avebury, is fitting to be done in his memory.
I lost my dad, but maybe if more funding for research into this disease is made available, just maybe someone else will get to keep theirs.
