The Professor Justin Mason Memorial Fund has been set up to enable family, friends, colleagues, patients, current and former students to give in memory of Justin Mason, Professor of Vascular Rheumatology at Imperial’s National Heart and Lung Institute, who sadly passed away in May 2022.

The fund has been established to carry forward Justin's legacy through future generations of students and researchers. The proceeds of the fund will be used to support and encourage future PhD students or researchers working on the science and management of large-vessel vasculitis.

Justin was widely recognised as an outstanding clinician and academic, a gifted leader, and a friend to many. His passion, enthusiasm, intelligence, compassion, and kindness shone through his work.

Over his 25 years at Imperial, he established himself as a leader within the field of vascular sciences. He was appointed Professor of Vascular Rheumatology in 2009 and Co-Head of the Cardiovascular Division at the NHLI in 2018. He was also co-director of the Imperial’s Centre of Excellence in Vasculitis Research. These are all positions he held with great distinction.

Justin’s impact on the vasculitis community has been immense. Through his role as Consultant Physician at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, his care and support for vasculitis patients really did make a difference and will continue to do so for years to come.

In addition to his research, teaching and clinical work, Justin held a number of external roles and served on several committees and fellowship panels. Justin was generous with his time and cared about supporting others to fulfil their academic potential.

Justin was an extraordinary mentor and numerous students, researchers and clinicians have benefited from his support and guidance over the years. We are honoured that Justin’s family have asked the College to help them establish the Professor Justin Mason Memorial Fund, the proceeds of which will be used to support and encourage future researchers.
