Story
WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!
We will be going to the Project Peru refuge in the shanty towns of Lima for three weeks this Summer, spending our days working and supporting the hard working staff with the day to day running of the refuge in the desert.
After the refuge we will be spending a couple of weeks travelling around Peru with the ultimate challenge of the Salkantay trek (‘One of the best 25 treks in the world’ - National Geographic Adventure Travel).
"Salkantay" apparently means 'Savage Mountain' and is at its peak located 6271 metres above sea level (crikey!) and we will trek up to 4600 metres and end up at Machu Picchu! (We're both afraid of heights - so that should make it interesting!!)
WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?!
We have wanted to dedicate our time to a charity for a while, trying to locate one where we know our time and efforts will make a real difference.
This is when we came across Project Peru, a small charity, who are entirely voluntary and rely upon the hard work of a handful of amazingly dedicated people.
WHERE IS MY MONEY GOING?
All the funds we raise will go directly to Project Peru to contribute to the running of the children's refuge, which includes food, clothes, shelter, health care, education, psychological support…and fun! And by the way Project Peru has minimal overhead costs!
All our travel, accommodation and food will be paid by us!!
IT COSTS £5 TO CARE FOR EACH CHILD, PER DAY, AT THE REFUGE.
HOW CAN I KEEP UP TO DATE WITH WHAT YOU'RE DOING?
To have the chance to see where the money is directly going is an absolutely wonderful opportunity. We shall bring back photographs and video of our time in Peru to share with you all.
We hope very much you will donate generously, adding your contributions to ours, to support Project Peru where we’ll be going to spend some of our time this summer.
Let's all try to make as much of a difference as we can.
Gracias to everyone!
