Story

Over the last few years I have known 5 people who have had Cancer, 4 of whom continued to spend cherished time with their loved ones following successful treatment. This was thanks in no small part to donations made to charities like Macmillan.

My Uncle, Mahendra Kumar Singodia, always had a smile on his face, a passion for life, and enjoyed walking and hiking. He tackled many mountains across the world with his infectious enthusiasm, including climbing Ben Nevis and Snowdon.

In 2019 whilst hiking in Nepal he was taken ill with stomach issues, and after investigation was moved to Kathmandu hospital when a cancerous tumour was removed from the base of his intestine. He was then flown back to the UK where he started Chemotherapy treatment at Guys hospital, unfortunately he lost his battle.

At midday on Wednesday 7th June a team of 21 climbers made up of 11 EMCOR UK employees and 10 supply chain partners will commence the 3 peak challenge within 24 hours. We will start at with the ascent of Ben Nevis, Scotland. This will be followed by Scafell Pike,
England which will be climbed during the middle of the night and finishes at Mount Snowdon, Wales.

The challenge is to climb the 3 highest mountains in the UK in just a 24-hour period. To complete the challenge the team must complete the 26 miles of walking, 11,182ft total ascent and 462 miles of travelling before midday on Thursday 8th June.

We are doing this challenge to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, and our collective aim is to raise £62,483 which would pay for a Macmillan Nurse for 1 year, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical, and emotional support.

I am taking on this challenge in memory of Mahendra Singodia, and on behalf of his wife (Nirmala Singodia) and daughter (Natasha Singodia), to raise vital funds for Macmillan, and to work towards a future where more people can have influences like my uncle in their lives for longer.
