Team Charity Walk - Ady, Nige, Pete, Dave and Stu walking for Prevent Breast Cancer – Think Pink!
Ady’s story started on Thursday November 17th 2016
This was the day that will stick in my mind forever. It was the day I met a truly amazing person - Dr Lester Barr MBE. He had the unfortunate job of giving me the most devastating news
- I had stage 3 breast cancer.
For a year, my life was filled with surgeries, chemo and radiotherapy all whilst continuing to work to keep my sanity! Most was pretty gruesome, nothing like having your head, hands and feet frozen!
Mostly it was exhausting not just for me but my family too. However, we managed to keep going and kept smiling (+ the fact I didn’t lose all my hair, a lot of it yes, but not all. Eyebrows and lashes yes, but not the hair!)
Fast forward to 2023 as I have passed that magical 5 yr point, hurray!! …so, we are doing a 10km walk for a charity based in Manchester called Prevent Breast Cancer (PBC). We will follow
the runners of The Great Manchester Run. I know a 10km walk doesn’t seem a lot however we will be dressed head to toe in ‘seriously, sassy, hot pink’ and marching with ‘The Pink Army’. Think Pink!….Big wigs, feathers, sequins and tutu’s and you are on the right track.
My surgeon, Dr Lester Barr MBE was the founder of this charity, the only charity in the UK solely dedicated to the prediction and prevention of this deadly disease. Preventative and early
detection are key. Breast cancer is the most common cause of cancer for women in the UK and more frighteningly the biggest cause of death in women between the ages of 35-49.
I was 46 when diagnosed!
Please give what you can, it is a fantastic cause and one that saves lives. Also, come along to the day if you are in and around Manchester. Come and support us, cheer us on or if nothing
else, just come along and laugh at us!
