Cyclists will tackle the climbs used on Vuelta d'Espanam more details below:
Coll de Rates
Only 7km @ 5% and a summit of about 580m, but a real cornerstone of the dozens of pro-team training camps that visit the region every year. It's a brilliant way to benchmark yourself against the top pros and has featured on the Vuelta several times.
Puerto Tudons
Is 'the big one', topping out at 1050m. From the coastal side it is around 15km at close to 6% apart from last 4 km which is a private road only usually open at the vuelta). To fit the Tudons in from the
Benidorm/Finestrat side (which is the longer climbing side), we'd need to commit to riding a 139km day with 3300m of elevation gain, which might be a bit more than some people are bargaining for!!
Routes will be kept flexible
Cumbre del Sol
Had a stage finish in 2015 and is back on the Vuelta route again in 2017. (http://www.lavuelta.com/la-vuelta/2017/us/stage-9.html). Only 3-4km long (it is a mini-Ventoux in that it can be approached from three sides), but averages around 10% and each side has a couple of much steeper ramps (16-20% on the sides we'd most likely consider and 24% on the one we'd probably avoid!)
Coll d'Ebo
9km @ 6% and offering up some fabulous views and one of the most enjoyable descents in the region.
