In CT, 1 in 20 workers is ineligible for Federal COVID-19 benefits. These people pay nearly $125 million in state and local taxes per year. Many havent had a paycheck in months and have been neglected by the federal governments economic response. People like Maria. Maria worked for 2 years as a medical assistant. She and her husband were expecting their 2nd child when her father passed away from liver cancer. Soon after, Maria lost her job. That was only the beginning. The real anxiety came when her husband tested positive for COVID-19 in Maria's last trimester. Her husband responsibly self-isolated so he didnt get his family or coworkers sick. The family received no financial support during this time, and their family was unsure of how they would pay their bills.4-CT is working with community organizations to get financial support to vulnerable CT residents. With the 4-CT Card, Maria and her family wont have to choose between paying rent and buying groceries.
