The St Mawgan Pram Push is back!
The St Mawgan Pram Push and Gymkhana take great pride in support Cornish based charities. Started over 40 years ago Stanley and Marie Prowse, it has grown from a small group of people walking for charities into a spectacle that everyone around the St Mawgan-in-Pydar Parish looks forward to.
People from all around the Parish come to take part and local pubs and businesses contribute by offering things such as mulled wine, a platter of food for the team (also the accompanying dogs) and shelter from the Cornish weather along the 6 mile walk. Teams spend months preparing their "prams" -- it started with prams that Stanley and Marie Prowse and their friends would purchase from second-hand and charity stores -- for the event. They take great pleasure in coming up with creative step-ups and outlandish puns and fantastic costumes; in the past we have had such "prams" as the Thunderbirds, The Beatles in their Yellow Submarine, and even a walking bar.
The St Mawgan Pram Push is in partnership with The St Mawgan Horse Show and Gymnkhana - across the decades - they have raised over £100,000 for charities. Even in 2020, we lost both of the founders and, in the end event had had to be cancelled due to the pandemic, and only being walked by the committee members and family of the event's founders in their memory, over £2500 for that year's charity - which speaks volumes of just how much of a community affair this day is.
The committee and the Prowse family would like to thank everyone for their donation towards Marie Curie this year, we know it has been a trying two years which is why it is appreciated all the more. Thank you
Marie Curie are grateful for your support - it is needed now more than ever before.
