NO, I WON'T DO IT AGAIN! It's great to have done it and how fantastic that you are still donating. I will be in touch soon.
Most of you will know that I have had cancer twice in the last 2 years and have been lucky to have had the support of so many good and kind friends.
It occurred to me as I underwent chemotherapy all over again that when life returned to normal I just had to do something to help others get through this ghastly time. In order to raise funds I am aware it must be challenging, if not masochistic, to encourage you kind readers to dig deep into your pockets! As I hate fun fairs and being driven by Stephen is for me a white knuckle ride, I have decided that jumping out of a plane at 13,000 feet will be terror enough.
I have chosen the Teenage Cancer Trust as my charity. Firstly because I will gain no benefit from the money raised and secondly cancer is the biggest cause of non-accidental death in teenagers and young adults in Britain, and its incidence has been rising by 1.2% a year during the past 30 years.
To be diagnosed with cancer is frightening and the treatment unpleasant and very tough for young adults who see their friends partying, going on gap years or starting at university whilst they lie attached to a drip being filled with toxic chemicals and losing all their hair.
Children’s wards aren’t suitable, yet adult wards can be depressing. The Teenage Cancer Trust is raising funds for special units. These units are making a 15% difference to recovery rates. Eight are in existence, with four more due to open soon, but the target is twenty.
I do hope you will support my jump. Needless to say not one penny of the money raised will go to pay for my skydive.
