Story
I'm Gareth - although most people know me as Spoon. I've been a volunteer crew member at Porthcawl RNLI for nearly seven years. Over that time I've been involved in numerous incidents and rescues and seen first hand how public donations save lives. As a charity the RNLI is reliant on donations so I'm delighted to have a charity place for the TCS London Marathon and be able to raise funds for Porthcawl RNLI.
As the owner of the local gym, Porthcawl Health and Fitness I'm really looking forward to the personal challenge of running the TCS London Marathon. It will be my first time in London so I'll try to keep my eye out for all the sights and landmarks too!
Porthcawl RNLI is one of the busiest lifeboat stations in Wales and we launch our lifeboats up to 100 times in a typical year. Porthcawl is one of 238 operational RNLI lifeboat stations who provide 24-hour search and rescue right around the UK and Ireland. At Porthcawl our volunteer crew operate two of the charity's inshore lifeboat; Atlantic 85 B832 Rose of the Shires and D Class D861 Hugo Missen.
With too many people still drowning, more than ever people need the RNLI's help. As a charity, the RNLI depends on donations so it can go on saving lives and keeping us and our loved ones safe.
