Story

Poppy’s Story

Myself and my wife adopted Poppy when she was just 8 weeks old. Poppy was born in a skip on a friends drive and we rehomed her, we just couldn’t resist her.

In January 2016 my wife fell pregnant and for the 9 months of her pregnancy, Poppy our cat became wary and distant towards her. I didn’t mind as it meant she favoured me and she was my ‘little girl’.

On 4th September our baby daughter arrived 3 weeks early and we brought her home. Unfortunately Poppy was very wary of the baby and just wasn’t herself.

We made the very hard decision to try and rehome Poppy as all we wanted was for her to be happy.

On 13th September we found a lady in Rochdale who was looking for a cat, so we gave her Poppy along with all her things free of charge. This lady promised us Poppy would be well looked after.

On 19Th November my wife received a call from the RSPCA in Rochdale saying they had found our cat and that she had been involved in a car accident,

My wife provided the RSPCA with the ladies name and address and they advised they would visit her first thing in the morning. When the RSPCA inspectors arrived at the ladies house and she denied having our cat and said she has only ever had one cat.

I was heart broke so I took it upon myself to visit this lady to get all of Poppy’s belongings. The lady advised she had sold them all but gave me £50 to cover the cost. I will never understand why she didn’t let us know or let the RSPCA know that Poppy hadn’t come home.

I have taken the £50 from that lady to the RSPCA and gave my little girl Poppy the biggest cuddle, she was purring away and was the loving cat I remembered. She had been outside fending for herself for at least 5 weeks and unfortunately has had to have her leg amputated – but this hasn’t stopped my Poppy!
All I want is for Poppy to find the forever home she deserves and in the meantime I cannot thank the RSPCA in Rochdale enough.
