Joe and I will be running 52km around the Isle of Wight in May 2021 to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. We were meant to do it in May 2020 but due to COVID it has been moved to 2021. I (Poppy) have Cystic Fibrosis and therefore raising money for CF Trust is close to the heart (literally)!
Although 2020 has been a challenging year due to COVID, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust have worked tirelessly to ensure all people with CF have access to the best treatment and they are continuing research into new treatments, medication and much more. Without the CF Trust, it wouldn't have been possible for us to access the life-changing drug called Kaftrio, which literally changes the cells in our lungs to make our lungs actually work properly! Thanks to Kaftrio, I have managed to knock 5 minutes of my 5km running PB (crazy! Who knew breathing was so useful?!). Whilst this new drug is a step in the right direction, it is still not a cure and 10% of people with CF are unable to take it. Therefore, the CF Trust is still researching and finding new medication. They have also supported people with CF hugely during the pandemic, from helping people with CF struggling financially to supporting CF people's mental health.
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-limiting genetic condition affecting more than 10,000 people across the UK. It affects the lungs and digestive system and can cause chronic infections and reduced lung function. Currently, half of those with CF will not live past age 41.The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is fighting for a brighter future for people with CF and their families by funding cutting-edge research, driving up standards of care and supporting people with the condition and their loved ones every step of the way.
Any and all donations are greatly appreciated. Feel free to share this JustGiving page amongst friends and family, the more support the better we will try to run!
Love,
Poppy and Joe
