Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As I walk the 50kms between Runnymede and Henley on the night of September 12, I will be thinking of my Mum who passed on exactly eight years ago, to the day. It was a long, tough four and a half years leading up to that day - and my Mum put up a fight that makes us all proud, as did my Dad as her primary care-giver!
But we all know it would not have been possible without the help and support we had from family, friends and doctors who have gone on to become dear friends since.. Fighting cancer can be scary, befuddling with all the treatment options at hand in what is essentially a slightly opaque, expensive and high stakes game! Besides the very obvious physical strain, the financial, mental and emotional strain can be really crushing!
Through those years spent in the hospitals, I saw enough people dealing with their illness and that of their loved ones without adequate support - not enough information, fear of the big C word, not having a shoulder to lean on, or not having enough money to pay for the next scan.. no one should have to go through that!
I recognise we were blessed as a family in the support we had, and this September, as I remember my Mum, I hope I can do my bit to extend that support to others in need. And I hope you will support me in this as I fundraise for Macmillan.
Here are some details on how they raise and spend their money -
