Story
Here at AC Pontymister we are a local community-based football club that play our football under the jurisdiction of the Gwent County Football Association. Unfortunately, our football season has been cut short due to the terrible coronavirus outbreak and this has left us searching for a higher purpose than simply winning football matches. We have decided that purpose should be to support those in need during this extremely testing period.
As a club we are set to run, trek and cycle the entirety of the Gwent County Football League in aid of mental health charity ‘Mind’. As soon as the lockdown guidelines allow it, our 35 willing volunteers will set out one by one in order to visit each of the 35 grounds in the Gwent County.
With the support of our members, friends, families and followers, we hope to raise as much as we possibly can for ‘Mind’ which provides support and advice for anyone experiencing mental health problems.
We have 35 volunteers of various ages (and fitness levels!) ready to tackle one leg of the challenge each, and many will be pushing themselves to their limit in order to complete their leg of the journey. However, knowing that the money we raise will be used to improve the lives of people living with mental health problems throughout the UK will be our driving force.
We are taking part in this event for ‘Mind’ because we really believe in their cause. The coronavirus pandemic is having a huge impact on our mental health and we would like to help this amazing organisation be there for those that need support during this crucial time. The charity helps the one in four of us that experience a mental health problem every year. The money raised will fund their vital work including the Mind Infoline, advice services and the campaigning Mind does.
