Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

A team of eight mates are going to take on the Three Peak Challenge; climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in under 24 hours and all for a great cause; the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. Check out:

We decided to do the challenge to test ourselves and our friendships! Another core aim was to take the opportunity to do good and help others.

The choice of charity to support was obvious. Our driver – Reggie, is unable to do the walk and can barely walk short distances on level ground for that matter. This is because he was born with Muscular Dystrophy (as was his younger brother). MD is a muscle-wasting disease that gets worse as time goes on and in its worst form, causes paralysis and death at around 25 years of age. Fortunately for Reggie, he should live longer than that; but the negative progression of his disease has been significant and noticeable since we have all known each other.

This makes our cause very personal and hugely motivating. The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign conducts and supports research to treat and cure over 60 different muscle-wasting conditions, as well as providing emotional support to sufferers and families. It also campaigns for awareness and quality of life improvements. Nearly all of this would not be possible without the organisation; which relies almost entirely on donations.

Recent advances in medical research give real hope for some cures within our lifetime. Further research could save Reggie from in the not-too-distant future, having to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. More importantly, it could stop the needless and hopeless death of many young people each year. It could prevent the pain and anguish of sufferers and their families.

So, with an opportunity to help such a worthwhile and potentially lifesaving effort, we enthusiastically invite you to join us in funding this essential research!
