Polly's 2022 London Marathon

London Marathon 2022 · 2 October 2022 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
12 years ago I became very unwell and was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour on one of my ovaries and had to have various surgeries and chemotherapy to treat it. It was a very tough time for me and my family, and starting secondary school with no hair was incredibly difficult, however, I'm extremely grateful for the treatment and help my family received.
Young Lives vs Cancer were incredible at offering me and my family the support that we needed. They offered counselling for the whole family, they provided accommodation for me and my mum so that we didn't have to make the long drive into hospital each day when I was feeling so sick from my chemo. Their care team would visit me at home and in hospital and made everything much more bearable. They even treated me and my family to a day out where we got to ride in a helicopter!!
The year after my treatment had finished, my mum ran the London Marathon for Clic Sargent as a way of giving back to the charity who helped us so much. My sister has also run two marathons for Children with Cancer UK. At aged 12 I promised myself that one day I would do the same - and 2022 is the year!
I will be running for all the children who have received the devastating news that they have cancer and are currently fighting their battle, for all the children who got to ring the bell at the end of their treatment, and for all the children who have tragically lost their battle to this horrible disease. I'm running for all the children who have had to show up to school for the first time after their hair has fallen out and for all the children who just want to be living a normal childhood with their friends.
Any donations will mean the absolute world and will help families find the strength to face everything cancer throws at them.
