Story
My little sister, Lara, died aged 22, on the 17th June 2014, following an epileptic seizure. I found out what had happened at the till after I’d just bought a pair of running trainers. So now I’m running.
Loobie dealt with this condition for 14 years. Some experts (not me) say there are more potential synapses in the brain than there are atoms in the universe. I can’t verify this myself because I can’t count that high, but knowing why it goes wrong, what the impact is, and how to solve the problem is a monumental challenge. That’s without even beginning to think about the side effects of the efforts you make to stop the fits.
Epilepsy Research UK are dedicated to funding research into every area of the causes and treatment of this condition – it’s really great.
I really want to help them. My effort is going to involve wearing a bib with this brilliant charity’s name on it, while I haul by sorry backside around London.
Do not underestimate the size of this task. Please help me.
Mostly, this will involve listening to me bore you about my training. But any coins you can scrape together from down the back of the sofa would be hugely appreciated – and might even shut me up.
And if you could come along on the day with a wheelbarrow or something to scoop me up in at the end, that would also be appreciated. Oh and maybe a pint. Yes, bring one of those too. Actually, no… chuck the money for the pint in the pot.
Thank you. You’re all brilliant.
