Story
I'm heading back to my favourite place in the world in three weeks’ time- Kititi, Masaka District, Uganda!
I've set up a Just Giving page for this specific trip as I will be able to share with you all exactly where your money will be going, it won't be going on funding my trip at all and will be going directly to the charity. I'll also be able to keep you all updated with pictures of what your money has supported.
To further raise money for Planting for Hope, Laura from YaurYoga has been amazing and has offered to host a charity yoga class in Worcester (right next to Foregate Street Station), where all donations will go to the charity. Simply book through the MindBody App and donations will be gratefully received on the door. http://www.yauryoga.com/online-booking-worcester/
I'm going over to do the best I can to share ethics and sustainability
research and to help wherever I am needed, from the field to the school. What the trip will be amazing for is raising awareness for the charity through my friends and family, relieving some work from the women and heading in with access to internet and consequently innovative farming methods, hardship relief and education materials.
Throughout my visit I will be focussing on offering admin support. This will include work on child sponsorship programs not possible in the UK, helping to ensure that the children are benefiting equally from us western benefactors rather than specific chosen children. Also, I will be assisting in English lessons (TEFL qualified), and covering nursery and P1 classes. Through a little more personal investment, I've booked a flight with Emirates to enable me to take an extra 20kg of donations, totalling to 50kg so will also be gratefully receiving clothes/shoes donations to take over to the community (any age, any gender, shoes and underwear... preferably clean ha).
Here's a little run down of what I'll be doing and what your money could be supporting:
- Working/ assisting in Cornerstone (school run by
PfHU)
- Working the land with the local women
- Building a children’s nursery block to provide
the cooperative’s women with childcare whilst they work their land.
- Building an upper school block
- Working on irrigation projects with farmers due
to recent droughts
- Helping with the feeding program
- Assisting with the deworming program
- Medical outreach with Dr Baker together with
primary healthcare in schools
- Continual admin, database updates, social media
management
