Story
Hey,
Welcome friends and family to my just giving page.
Please tune in and read on to find out about my latest challenge for Woman V Cancer. As some of you know I successfully cycled 564 miles back in July 2017 across the 'Three Peeks' to raise money for equipment and nursing aid in Kathmandu, Nepal.
I have been thinking for some time now, what's next? How can I challenge myself, improve my resilience, strength, and wellbeing whilst utilising potential sponsorship money to benefit others. Well.... HOLD IT THERE I have found my challenge!
How does a cycle from Bangkok to Koh Samui in just one week sound? Yes, that right, I may be mad but I have signed myself up to cycle 420km across Thailand with a group of woman in aid of three awesome woman's cancer support charities. The vastly differing environment, climate and terrain will surely push me and my endurance more than ever before. Exciting stuff! The challenge takes place in October 2020 (monsoon season I know) and I am hoping to raise a whopping £4000 between now and then, eeeeks scary...BUT I think I've got it under wraps. Watch out for pop up cake sales, bag packing, boot sales and music events. You can follow my training journey both here and on Facebook in the lead up to this exciting challenge and deposit any sponsorship money you may feel called to do so on this page or in person.
As many of you know I am a registered community nurse working in and around the Mendip area of Somerset. As cliché as it sounds nursing to me is not just a job, it is my passion. I LOVE being able to support not only my patients, but their children, and families at times that are often scary and difficult. Palliative care (also known as end of life) equates for around 45% of my overall workload. I get to see first-hand the outstanding work that smaller charities such as 'Breast Cancer Care', 'Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust' & 'Ovarian Cancer Action' do for patients suffering with these life limiting conditions.
Public Health England (2018) have recently that in the UK 12 woman die each day of ovarian cancer, 3 will die of cervical cancer and every year 55,000 men and woman will receive the devastating news that they have breast cancer. The fact is that the number are growing thus the need for support, care, and research is too! Each of the three charities being sponsored provide skilled, emotional and practical support and advice for sufferers, funding further research into these conditions. Knowledge after all is POWER! I have provided bellow separate links to the three charities I will be supporting if you interested in finding out more. Feel free to pick my brains if you have any further questions.
To wrap it all up, I just want to say a big thank you if you have got this far, god knows I love to ramble! Please consider making a donation guys, help be the change we want to see!
Much love,
Polly <3
