Our Story:

Organised by Cyndeo Events - a UK based innovative events agency known to support the live music industry - and getFORWARD - a global community of entrepreneurs, startupists, artists, thinkers and curious minds - #playformentalhealth is an initiative aiming to raise awareness of mental health through the power of performing arts and its community.

This is a challenging time for all and we commend the efforts made to fight the pandemic around the globe. However, consequences of this pandemic include the cancellation of live events and performances, resulting in a significant lack of work for performing artists.

The presence of art is often taken for granted and its positive impact in our daily lives is frequently underestimated. Art can increase productivity and has the power to uplift our mood, change our emotions and drive creativity. The absence of exposure to art results in a dull abnormality especially for live performers, but also for the rest of the world.

No one knows how long this will last and it is essential not to underestimate the effects of future uncertainty upon our mental health. Whilst we await a return to normality, thought of the future remains daunting and the unknown impacts of the pandemic on ‘business as usual’ can have negative effects on our mental wellbeing.

The focus of this campaign is to offer support for what is yet to come, rather than the situation we currently face. We want to support the artists, who have lost their jobs and perhaps their productivity, to continue creating content, as well as supporting the rest of the world whose mental health may suffer due to a reduced number of creative outlets. The performing arts industry is one of the best to work in because of the power of its people and with your support, this community can make a difference and ease the burden on our mental wellbeing.

This partnership was created to raise awareness of mental health and to raise money for Mental Health Foundation UK, whilst simultaneously supporting and engaging performing artists. We invite you to join our efforts in delivering a fundraising campaign that will connect people throughout the world by playing, recording & sharing music and performances, using the hashtag #playformentalhealth on social media platforms, and by donating to this campaign (www.justgiving.com/fundraising/playformentalhealth)

Our aims are to:

  • Advocate mental health awareness
  • Raise money for Mental Health Foundation UK
  • Support artists who are currently without work or projects
  • Showcase the diverse talent that exists
  • Enhance creativity in the current dull state of life by adding a bit of fun
  • Reconnect artists with fans, family and loved ones

Performers, it is time to make a change and give back as much as we can to our community as a strong reminder that we are still here using our efforts, talent and will to support one another at this time of crisis.
