Story
On the 8 September 2001 I was on my way home from my Dad’s when my mother’s partner picked us up and took us on a detour to the hospital. I was completely oblivious to the fact that it could be that my twin brothers were born and was hooked on the idea that it was because he needed some “medicine”. When I got there I found that Sebastian and Marcus had both been born prematurely but sadly Marcus never took his first breath and died within moments of being born and Sebastian was rushed into intensive care. At the age of 10 it was something I could and couldn’t comprehend, it was like all the imaginary times I had thought about having with them were gone, just like that. After 7 weeks he was allowed home but we found out that he had Cerebral Palsy and brain damage. As I’m writing this, I think about everything my brother did for me and how he changed my life for the better. He couldn’t walk, he couldn’t talk, he couldn’t even control half his movements yet I have never, ever, seen a boy smile and laugh like he did. His wonderful smile, memorable giggle and angelic features were just a few of his very special gifts. Through all his pain and suffering he enjoyed life more than anyone I knew and he taught me to do the same. He died a week after his 4 birthday and as he lay in my arms and took his last breath, I promised I’d make him proud.
During Sebastian’s life, we were lucky enough to have support from Rainbows Children’s Hospice in Loughborough. Rainbows is a place for living and enriching lives and helping children like Sebastian to reach their full potential and get the most out of their lives. I will always be indebted to them for what they’ve done for me and Sebastian and my family.
So now it’s my time to give back as much as I can to the most incredible charity for all their wonderful support they’ve given me and Sebastian during the his life. Over the next year I wish to stream my rise to platinum and then diamond within League of Legends and prove to myself and everyone else that if your heart is in something you believe, you can achieve anything and enjoy doing it. I may not be running the marathon or swimming the channel but to me this is like climbing a mountain with no easy route and it would be something that I will have fought for and battled to achieve. It’s a dream inspired from a situation that Sebastian presented and I intend to make him proud.
If I can do this now and raise money for Rainbows at the same time, what could be a better reward to the memory of my beloved brother Sebastian than doing something that makes me happy to be called his brother.
Thank you for reading my story.
