Story
CHALLENGE:
To donate Platelets at 20 of the 23 NHS Blood Transplant Centres in England.
THE AIM:
To raise awareness of blood donation and the importance of it, whilst raising money for Great Ormand Street Hospital Charity.
BACKGROUND:
In 1973 John Tett gave his first donation of whole blood and continued to do so until 1982. He gave his the first donation of platelets in 1982 at the NHS Edgware Centre.
Since 1973 John has given 1,270 donations of Platelets, plasma and whole blood.
In 2014 he moved to live in Brewood South Staffordshire, and since then he has been donating regularly at the Birmingham centre.
A friend of John suggested that in 2020 he set himself a challenge to donate platelets at 20 of the 23 NHS Blood Centres in England.
John will be raising awareness of blood donation and the importance of it, whilst raising money for Great Ormond Children Hospital, in London.
The first centre he will be donating at is Edgware and the twentieth will be Birmingham towards the end of the year. Given that Platelet donations can only be made at a minimum of every two weeks, in good health 20 donations
is a tough challenge.
