Story
In July 2022 myself and 4 of my colleagues from the Planet Contracting Western division will be taking on the National three peaks challenge, which involves climbing the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales, all within a 24 hour period. The total walking distance is 23 miles & the total ascent is 3064 metres (10,052ft), plus 432 miles of driving in between peaks.
We will be doing this on behalf of Sabrina who is a bright, brave, determined & inspirational 7 year old little girl from Swindon in a bid to raise as much money as possible for her.
Sabrina was diagnosed with ALG1 CDG – which is a very rare metabolic disease (1 of 65 known cases worldwide) – which causes many health issues but mainly affects her brain. She has Epilepsy, Microcephaly, Hypotonia or low muscle tone to name a few. What does this mean? Sabrina can walk but not jump, she can understand but not communicate, she can strive but not achieve and she takes risks but doesn’t see the danger.
Sabrina started to walk when she was 4 & since then she has continued to practice walking, driven by the desire to run with her brother. If she falls – which she does all the time – she gets straight back up and will try again and again and again. She is a joy and an inspiration to everyone she meets.
What Sabrina needs is therapy to improve her strength and balance, so that one day she will jump on a trampoline and touch the sky; therapy to help her speech and to draw out the words that seem to be locked inside; equipment to help her access and experience everything life has to offer; and an adapted home environment which allows independence and safety, so her family are free to play, laugh and love.
Our aim is to raise £5,000 towards the overall goal of £20,000 needed to realise Sabrina’s dreams. All donations will be greatly appreciated.
