Helping rural communities in Malawi access clean, safe water. · 17 May 2019
I am taking part in Cisco Mission Malawi 2019, spending a week volunteering in Malawi, supporting The One Foundation's clean water programmes. Each of the team has fully funded the trip ourselves and we're using our time, energy and skills to help repair some of the country's estimated 12,000 broken water pumps.
Without clean water, communities are vulnerable to water-borne diseases like cholera and diarrhoea. Every year an estimated 2 million people die from these illnesses, most of them children under 5 years old.
The project we're supporting fixes faulty water pumps and teaches communities how to maintain and repair them, so they can deal with any future faults themselves and keep water flowing in their villages.
What do I know about water pumps? Nothing, but I'm hoping to know a lot more by the end of this experience!
Please donate to support the project - ALL donations will go directly to The One Foundation.
