Story
Our Goal: Fiona Daly and her team are on a mission to raise a whopping £100,000 for Cancer services at Barts Health NHS Trust.
Our Cause: Each and every year more and more of us are being affected by cancer; be it directly ourselves, or through the ones we love, our relatives, our friends or our colleagues, most of us have been touched by this disease in one way or another. Cancer affects one in three people in the UK, with over 2,800 new patients being treated at Barts every year. So we would like to ask you to join us throughout our very personal journey to help beat this awful disease.
Our Story: Fiona lead the sustainability agenda at Barts
Health NHS Trust until December 2016, working with her team to improve water and energy efficiency, reduce waste and deliver cost and carbon savings for our hospitals. Her sustainability programme saved the NHS £10 million! She has now left the NHS and moved to work for another company, however this cause is still very important to her and she will still continue to support this goal.
Last September, Barts Health installed a Jenbacher gas engine into its new energy centre at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. This engine was switched on during NHS Sustainability Day on the 24th of March 2016. It now generates much of the electricity needed to power the hospital, along with hot water for heating and cleanliness and saves the trust £500K a year in energy costs and prevents 2,492 tonnes of carbon emissions a year! However it doesn't stop there. There’s something rather special about this engine…!
The colour of our new engine is pink to raise awareness of its environmental and financial benefits. It’s now named Pink Power and with its arrival, the £100,000 fundraising target for Cancer services at Bart health was born!
Our Team: "My affiliation with St Bartholomew's Hospital started early on in my life when, at the age of 10, my dad developed Lymphatic cancer and was treated at the hospital - I have always been so grateful to Barts for giving me my childhood with my dad, and I want to do what I can to help others gain valuable time with their loved ones too. Since then I have been continuously touched by the disease through my friends and family members, and thanks to the amazing work of our hospitals and charities like Cancer Research UK many of them are still alive today."

Our Fundraising:
Pinl Power Raffle: Our fundraising started on NHS Sustainability Day, when we switched our engine on. We hosted a pink power raffle where all prizes were pink, this raised £275.
Barts Party- We hosted a fundraiser pub evening on Tuesday 23rd August 2016 at St Barts Brewery, West Smithfield. Brian Lock our Transport manager AKA DJ Blocksta and Michael Waithe our Transport project manager AKA MikeyFuturistic mixed some great tunes including a few old school favourites of ours! The evening gave people the opportunity to catch up and grab some great food and drink offers. We raised a total of £460 for the evening.
Winter Fair- We held a one day only market fair at St Bartholomew Hospital to bring a little festive cheer to our patients, staff and visitors. The stalls included hot, tasty burgers and sausages from the Parson's Nose, delicious South East Asian curry sauces by Nonya Secrets and fresh goat cheeses straight from Nut Knowle Farm. The traders donated a minimum of £25 each and in total we raised £105.
