Story
Nelson and Piers have teamed up to raise money
for a fantastic cause: the Royal Society for Blind Children.
Piers: A friend of mine is a blind rock climber and our vicar in London was blind – it’s incredible what people can achieve without need of sight, something most of us take for granted. But in order to overcome the challenges that blindness creates, people do need some support. That’s where the RSBC comes in; supporting blind children. It’s an incredibly worthy cause deserving of some of your money.
Nelson: There are just under 44,000 blind and partially sighted children in the United Kingdom. A lack of regular support for parents, fewer opportunities to learn vital life skills, and limited access to positive social experiences mean that blind and partially sighted children can be at a serious disadvantage when it comes to their emotional well-being, social development and ultimately, life prospects. The RSBC seeks to support these children and their families through a number of programs so that they may fulfill their own unique potential.
I have a passion for outdoor activity and believe it is a key part of physical, mental, and emotional health; I discovered running during COVID and have since grown to love the sport as an excuse to get outside and explore my surroundings. Activity was an important part of my childhood, and one which I believe is beneficial to all children. Among other areas in life, the blind can be limited in their ability to explore and experience the world. RSBC breaks down the barriers for blind children to explore the outdoors through their Live Life Go Further initiative. I choose to run for RSBC to support a standout organization which makes a tangible positive impact on the lives of children and young people.
Thank you in advance. Donations large and small are welcome!
