Story
When you walk down the street, how many facemasks or latex gloves do you notice lying on the pavement?
The Covid19 pandemic means we are facing a new form of litter. Disposable PPE is cropping up everywhere. We want to draw attention to this, so last year we a set up PicUp: a London based environmental community project committed to creating a culture where people take responsibility for litter - in particular, Personal Protective Equipment.
We asked people to notice the PPE litter they saw and, before disposing of it where safely possible, to take a picture and share on a litter busting app, Litterati.
We had an incredible response. People around the UK collected and documented almost 3000 pieces of littered PPE.
While we don’t want PPE on our pavements, we do want it in our hospitals. So we’re currently raising money for the NHS who need our support more than ever right now.
It’s simple – donate £1 for that discarded facemask or glove you saw today, or the one you see tomorrow. All donations will go to support NHS Charities Together.
