This year is a big one for me as I reach one of life’s milestones and I want to do something that is not only challenging and memorable but also meaningful.

But which Charity to choose?

Breast Cancer features quite heavily in my family and although as a Nurse Practitioner I understand the medical issues, it was not until recently that I realised the potential impact on those close to the sufferer.

I was fortunate that this was a false alarm, but it did really make me think about how we would manage and what the implications are of what is becoming a very common condition.

And this is where Breast Cancer Care Charity steps in to offer practical advice and support not only to those affected but also their families.

It is estimated that 1 in 9 women will at some stage develop Breast Cancer. We all know at least 9 women don’t we…..

And what Challenge?

Although as a Nurse I am used to meeting with new people on a daily basis, I am really quite shy and reserved.  So I want to do something on my own (without friends and family) in a country I’ve never been before with people I have never met and in a country whose language(s) I cannot speak.

As well as this I want to test my body by putting it through the kind of exertions it hasn’t seen for years. I will therefore be trekking the Great Wall of China later next year in September. It promises to be quite a challenge but hopefully equally rewarding.

I am looking to raise £5,000, but I need to have at least half of that by the summer, so please don’t wait and please do give generously.

The training starts in earnest next week, and I will look to keep you updated on my progress from time to time...
