Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In 2009 my mother, Maureen Turton, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, a condition which blighted the last years of her life, before her death in December 2012. The Alzheimers Society is the UK’s leading charity providing help and support for those afflicted with the disease, and their carers (such as my father) and funds research into its causes and treatments. As matters stand, the incidence of Alzheimer’s disease continues to grow, so that 1 in 3 people are likely to be afflicted in the next 30 years, and it remains poorly understood and only partially susceptible to treatment. The charity has a lower profile than many health related charities but its work may be just as important to each of us by the time we enter our later decades.
