Why am I running for Marie Curie?

At the beginning of 2014 my best mate Richi Clarke was diagnosed with lung cancer, and despite the best efforts of the NHS, on 23rd October 2014 he passed away.  During his illness the NHS, Macmillan and Marie Curie provided exemplary care for him.  

I am doing this run in his memory and to raise funds for Marie Curie, a hardworking charity with a great team providing palliative care to cancer patients all over the UK.  This year has been tough on everyone, charities included, with their normal revenue streams affected. #TeamMarieCurie

A bit about me:

Running is quite the achievement for me, never having been sporty or anywhere near fit in my life!

When the first lockdown kicked in I decided to try the Couch to 5K challenge and in about 10 weeks I got from barely being able to run for a bus, to being able to run 5k in about 35 minutes.

Since I completed Couch to 5k at the end of May 2020 I have kept on running, pushing myself further, and 5 months later I managed a 15km run, I was so pleased... oh and I've lost over 2 stone in the process!

My next goal is to push myself even further and complete a half marathon - 13.1 miles is just over 21km and I have a little over six months until the London Landmarks Half Marathon to train for it. (https://llhm.co.uk/)
