Phillip's Kayak for Cancer Research

Have you ever sat on the bank of a river, watched someone kayaking by and thought what a great challenge that could be? Well that happened to me, and with a little help from 13 other equally foolish guys, that thought is becoming a reality. Our aim is to kayak the River Thames from Cricklade (the Western limit of navigation) to Putney / Westminster (depending on the tide) a distance of about 150 miles. We start on Thursday 30th April and finish on Monday 4th May (5 days).
Life is about challenges and some of us are luckier than others. This is my chance to push myself and do something for those who face a daily challenge without choice.
Now I am not a natural Kayaker, as I am discovering, but the weekly training since January has shown that with a bit of perseverance improvements can be made. Along with the support and camaraderie of the team and no doubt some liquid medicine en route, I am sure that the 5 days on the water will leave a lasting and not too painful memory of a worthwhile challenge.
The serious side is, of course, our attempt to raise money for two charities Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital and Cancer Research. I have created two identical pages on which you can choose which charity you would like to support.
Both charities are important to me personally........
My Sister, Gillian, has battled bravely through Breast Cancer in the past year and is making great progress, and I want to be assured that we continue to invest in eliminating this disease.
The importance of Childrens health has been constantly close to me over the past 20 years, as the Dad of two wonderful daughters, Sophie & Olivia. The work that GOSH does in pioneering, caring for and supporting those Children that are less fortunate is something that should never be taken for granted, and is such a worthwhile cause.
I hope your support will give that little extra motivation, to me and the rest of the boys..
Thank you for anything you choose to give.
