Story

For many years I have wanted to do a pilgrimage and especially the Camino to Santiago de Compestella. Since the start of 2023 I have been in training to complete a Trek in the Sahara for St Luke’s hospice, which is one of my favorite charities. My mother in law, Shirley’Diddy’ Harding spent the last few weeks of her life at St Luke’s and was given excellent treatment. When the opportunity came to do the Camino too I jumped at it.

Two more incredible people, my Uncle John Thompson and brother in law, Martin Wilkinson, were both given support through their own local hospices. As I have been trying to get myself fit and maintaining this, my thoughts and prayers are often with them. I know they, with Diddy, help me every step of the way.

All the support I have received from past colleagues at St Martin’s, fellow Headteachers, people from Delamere Park and friends and family to complete Trek the Sahara, has also inspired me to undertake this very special challenge. I will keep you all close to my heart and in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you all.

Thank you for visiting our JustGiving page. This is a moderate to challenging activity and our trekkers will be trekking long distances over varying terrain, which includes some uphill sections, in varying weather conditions. They will be walking for many hours and sometimes on steep gradients. There will be considerable training to prepare for this challenge and it shouldn't be underestimated! They will be trekking at least 7-8 hours at a time for multiple consecutive days. Regular breaks are taken, but long days of walking are inevitable. You cannot be too fit for this challenge so we are encouraging our supporters to get walking!
