Story
Last year I lost my Mother, Lona Watson, to Ovarian Cancer. Born and bred in West Wales, she always loved the Pembrokeshire coastline, so this challenge is the obvious way to remember her and to raise money for this worthy cause.
I will be walking The Pembrokeshire Coast Path (with help from Richard Allibone and Peter Watson) between June 20 - July 3 to raise money for The Eve Appeal. This trail covers 299km (186 miles) of the most spectacular coastal scenery in Britain. The entire route represents an impressive physical challenge to the walker, including 35,000 feet of ascent and descent (the equivalent of climbing Mt Everest) .
Ovarian Cancer is known as The Silent Killer because it is difficult to detect until it's most advanced stage. When it is detected at its most advanced stage, over 85% of women suffering from ovarian cancer will die from the disease, but when it is detected in the early stages, 95% of women will survive.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also an efficient way to sponsor me: The Eve Appeal will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.
3rd April 2006 Update - Thanks to everyone who has donated so far - the MASSIVE response is overwhelming. It has enabled me to raise the target aim from £1000 to £2500, which would be a very great achievement!
6th July 2006 Update - We completed the walk successfully! Hooray! It was hard work at times - we ached, we blistered, etc. etc. but we did enjoy the views and the experiences along the way! Photos and highlights will be distributed separately! Many, many thanks to those who have given generously, and those who sent encouraging messages as we went! All VERY much appreciated.
15th July 2006 update - I have now blogged the diary with plenty of photos - it can be found at http://walkforcharity.blogspot.com
