Story

Patrick C. Batchelor (1978-2008)

When my dear friend Patrick began to lose his hair in his long-fought battle against an extremely rare form of leukemia, I was reminded of the possibility of donating my hair by another good friend, Maria Trovela, and found out about Little Princess Trust, who make wigs for kids:
http://www.littleprincesses.org.uk/

So I grew my hair long until in summer 2009, I sheepishly made my first hair donation. Later, I was delighted to learn that the kind young lady who cut my hair, Chellse Greenhalgh, and staff at RUSH Croydon Centrale went on to do other fundraising and charity events which were also covered by the local media. That was very cool!

Then, after 3 years of growing it back, I made my second hair donation along with my wife in summer/autumn 2012, and since then a number of my former students (and a mother) have donated and also found a charity in Japan (http://jhdac.org/)!

Now, I'm making my third hair donation but due to increasing white hair, this will probably be the last one. However, I would like to raise greater awareness and create an opportunity for others to contribute.

The target I've set is £1405.78, which might seem a little strange, but 14 May 1978 was the day Patrick was born. Over the years, however, Patrick chose not to celebrate his birthday and once even told me it wasn't meaningful. At the time I said that I thought it was meaningful to those who loved him and wanted to express that, but came to respect his wishes. But then last year, another good friend of mine - who coincidentally shares the same birthday with Patrick's dad and mine - donated his birthday to charity: http://www.justgiving.com/Chris-Massey-Birthday. How unbelievably cool is that!!

So, given Patrick's passion for helping others and thinking of those less fortunate, I'd like to take the liberty of making his birthday that much more meaningful again. And with your help, I'm sure we can and we will. For example, you can make a difference right now, or later in your own time:

(a) Tell your friends or share via FaceBook, Twitter, etc;
(b) Help by making a donation here;
(c) Donate your hair, too, and help another child;
(d) Do a combination of the above; and/or
(e) Anything else you can imagine!

One other thing, it costs Little Princess Trust about £350 to have a wig made. So, once we reach the £1405.78 target, the cost of 4 wigs will have been covered.

Many thanks for your time and support! It's invaluable and much appreciated.

Love, peace, happiness and blessings,

Phil
