Thank you for visiting my Study Guatemala fundraising page!
Study Guatemala is a small registered charity which helps to provide fee education for some of the most disadvantaged children in Guatemala City, who otherwise would not be able to attend school.
As many of you well know Study Guatemala is the only charity in Guatemala City providing free education to disadvantaged children. However, the building we have rented since 2003 is no longer able to house the students we look after and we are in desperate need of better facilities. Over the last five years we have been raising money to build a new school. So far we have managed to buy land and begin the construction of a brand new school for 150 students in the heart of Zone 5 of the city. We are currently £20,000 shy of completing the project. Recently we secured loans so that the building work could carry on and be completed in time for a new school intake in 2010. This loan has to be repaid quickly as possible and in order to do this I have organized a 6 day trek (our second) in the mountains of Guatemala, to take place at the end of March. 15 people from the UK and Ireland will participate and the funds we raise should be enough to cover our costs and pay off the loan.
Liceo Britanico Guatemalteco offers free education to 150 severely disadvantaged children between the ages of 12-17. Over the years we have changed the lives of hundreds of students and their families who depend on them, which is why the work we do is crucial to the future of this deprived community. I am asking you to sponsor me for whatever you can on the forthcoming trek. I appreciate that it is not the best of times so soon after the earthquake in Haiti, but whatever you can give whenever you can give it will be very much appreciated.
