Story
Once again the Cory Band has qualified to represent Wales at the European Brass Band Championships - the 18th qualification in a row! The competition is on 4th and 5th May 2018.
Whilst we are very proud of our qualification achievements, it will take an enormous amount of financial resource to get to Utrecht in Holland where the competition is taking place this year. The band has 30 members who devote their time for the reward of performing on the biggest occasions and most prestigious events, and these players need transporting to Holland and accommodating for four nights. It's the most expensive event of the year for us, by some margin.
That's why two of our members, Morgan Jones President, and Philip Harper Musical Director (along with friends of the band Paul Williams, Arwel Griffiths and Carwyn Jones), are again attempting to cycle all the way from South Wales to the competition, to fundraise for the band to be able to compete. Philip will cycle from his home in Gloucestershire to the Cory Bandroom on Monday 30 April, then Morgan's team will continue on to Utrecht on Tuesday 1st May, arriving in time to hear the band play on Friday 4th (hopefully!) Last year we successfully raised over £3,000 for the cause, but this year, the venue is 150 miles further on - an even bigger challenge for the cyclists - we would really appreciate your support!
