Hi all
So, I managed to complete the London Marathon on Sunday. I limped across the finish line in a time of 04:53:42 (my original target was 5 hours, so I was thrilled to beat that). It was the toughest thing I have ever done and there was a point around the 22 mile mark when I felt like I had nothing left and I honestly thought I'd have to throw in the towel (now I know what all that talk about "hitting the wall" means), but I pushed on and it was worth it for the amazing feeling of getting to the end. That last 400 metres, when the finish is in sight and you're being spurred on by the brilliant crowd, is a remarkable thing to experience, and I can't describe the overwhelming sense of elation and relief that comes with finally crossing that line. The whole day was an extraordinary experience.
I'm still rather stiff and sore, but I’m slowly recovering and I’m sure I’ll be 100% in a few days. Huge, huge thanks to everybody who has sponsored my marathon adventure so far; it makes me feel very proud to have raised so much money for a worthy cause. This page will remain open until July 25th, so there's still time to raise even more and all contributions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks again
Phil (retired athlete)
