Story
At the end of January, Tropical Storm Ana caused devastating flooding in southern Malawi.
Chikwawa has been the worst affected district, with over 84,000 households impacted. Families there are suffering from loss of their loved ones, damage to their houses and belongings, a lack of food and other essentials, and destruction of their crops and livestock.
WeSeeHope - the charity we founded 22 years ago - has been working with 12 rural communities in the district since last year to improve access to early education and psychosocial support for vulnerable children through our Pre-School and Kids’ Club programmes.
It is vital that the communities get urgent support to recover and rebuild from the vast impact of the storm. We are therefore aiming to raise £17,132 to:
Provide fortified porridge for 1,200 children when they attend pre-school for three months so they have a nutritious meal.
Supply food - 1 bag of 50kg maize - to 60 pre-school teachers and 36 Kids’ Club volunteers once a month for three months so they can focus on running the programme activities and supporting children in their communities.
Equip 88 community volunteers whose houses have been damaged by floods with damp proof sheets for their roofs.
Reconstruct three temporary pre-school shelters ruined by the floods using locally available materials and resources so children can restart their education.
Conduct a three-day training course for 60 pre-school teachers and 36 Kids’ Club community volunteers so they can provide psychological support to children worst affected by the disaster.
Please consider making a donation to support our recovery efforts in Malawi. You can do so on this JustGiving page or by getting in touch with the WeSeeHope team at Hello@WeSeeHope.org.uk or on 0208 288 1196.
Anything raised beyond our target will go towards WeSeeHope's ongoing work in Chikwawa. Thank you so much.
