Story
I've never been one for running long distances, but this September I will be running the Richmond Half marathon for Little Hearts Matter.
This charity is important to me because they provide specialised support to children and families affected by the diagnosis of single ventricle heart condition. LHM are there every step of the way, no matter the outcome.
Chloe's story
Before she was born, we found out Chloe had half a working heart. She would need surgery and a lot of time in hospital - the road ahead was far from certain.
Little Hearts Matter gave us the hope and courage that we needed to plan for our new life as a family of four (now five plus the dog), albeit with a serious heart condition in the family.
Chloe was born on Friday 27th July. She was full term and weighed 2.94 kg. She cried, she opened her eyes, she saw the sun, the trees and the odd pigeon.
As the days passed, we were able to cuddle her, feed her, and introduce her to her brother. She got gas and she pooed all up her back, just like any normal baby.
Chloe showed such strength and did so many things we thought she never would. However, her complications were too great and ultimately proved too much. At 9 days old, Chloe died in our arms.
In those 9 days we created many happy memories and moments which we will cherish forever. We are eternally grateful for the time we shared. We love you Chloe and we promise to make you proud.
Please help us to raise funds for Little Hearts Matter so they can continue to provide support and information to families experiencing isolation, fear and lack of understanding when a child is diagnosed with half a working heart.
