Story
Dear Friends,
Romans, countrymen, relations, acquaintances, colleagues, neibhours, fellow aviators and those of you who have never heard of me.
Phil's Giant Leap for Mankind...
Welcome to Phil's 'Just Giving' page and allow me to inform you of a forthcoming event (9th April 2011) involving the disembarkation of an aeroplane whilst still in flight - a curious concept and one that I have given very little thought to, lest I should change my mind.
As an experienced aviator of 30 years I am proud to report that, having accumulated over 11,000 hours of flying, I currently have the same number of landings as takeoffs. This happy situation is about to change as I have persuaded myself (in the interests of raising some money) to jump out of a perfectly servicable aeroplane whilst strapped securely to a tandam parachute instructor. Thence we will plummit downwards in a situation called 'Freefall' before floating gently Earthwards under a parachute. This experience could variously be described as 'cool, exciting, foolish, madness...' but nevertheless one that I hope will raise some funds for a worthwhile cause.
As some of you will know my brother Sam was diognosed with Parkinson's disease some years ago which has had a profound effect on his everyday life - not least of which being forced to give up his passion for gliding. Due to much support from many sources including 'Parkinson's UK' he is still able to lead an indedendent life. So I ask you to dig deep by way of this web site and support the very worthwhile work that is undertaken on behalf of people like Sam by Parkinson's UK.
During 2009 my sister Amanda raised a substantal amount for Parkinsons UK by participating in sponsored runs including the London Marathon. Thus I am spurred on (perhaps duty bound) to follow in her footsteps and raise as much money as possible. Please give generously.
Thank you. Phil Mummery. 15th November 2010.
