Story
Thanks for visiting my page and supporting my fundraising.
It's nearly a month since that amazing day and I still find it hard to believe that I actually went and did it! As you can see from the photo my daughter Lia and I were very pleased with ourselves!🙂🙂
The feet have recovered (no details but it involves toe nails), replacement trainers have been purchased and training starts again! The next challenge...... London Landmarks Half Marathon 2nd April 2023. The reason for this is to continue raising essential funds for Macmillan and to try and go a bit quicker and see if there's a personal best in the legs!
For now I'm going to leave my most recent London ...
Wow how amazing was that!!! There's so many words to describe the awesome event that is the London Marathon however there's probably a word limit on this post! The Macmillan Cancer Care events team were great. Thank you for organising the virtual training sessions, the encouragement and advice and the support stations on the route. A special thank you to the lovely people who were happy to give a very welcome and much appreciated massage to some very sweaty and smelly runners and thank you for the food and the couple of cups of tea (which tasted so good after a day of sports drinks and gels). I felt very honoured to be part of Team Macmillan 😊
After a year of training (well to be accurate 51 weeks) I'm amazed at how my son Joe and I have gone from walking for 30 minutes on a lunchtime to running 20 miles a few weeks ago to completing a marathon and having fun in the process. The miles just disappeared as we made our way around the route. We had an incredible day, thoroughly enjoyed our run and finished within 4 seconds of our hoped for time!
I was very fortunate to be running the marathon with my son Joe, daughter Lia and her partner Matt. Hubby Dave had the challenge of finding suitable spectator spots where he was able to see us all - quite a challenge as we run at different speeds and had different start times - although Joe and I are ran together which made it slightly easier for him. It really was a family event.
Too many of the people around me are affected by cancer in one way or another. Supporting Macmillan Cancer Care something that I can do which might make a difference to the lives of my family and friends and others I have yet to meet.
I didn't realise the extent of the information available on the Macmillan website or the range of the support available. Even if you do nothing else from my endeavour to run the marathon have a look at the website - I'm pretty sure you'll learn something.
