Story
Hi, and thank you for visiting my JustGiving page.
On September 1st 2019 I will be setting sail from St Katherine’s Dock, London taking part in the 2019-20 Clipper Round the World Yacht race - 11 identical 70 foot racing yachts competing in an epic 11month circumnavigation, each with a professional skipper & 1st mate but completely amateur crew.
The race is split into several “legs” with stopovers in Uruguay, Cape Town, Australia, China, Seattle, Panama, New York and Londonderry. Whilst not able to complete in the whole race, I am one of the Team Seattle crew on 3 of the longer legs covering over half of the world’s circumference …..
Leg 1, September-October 2019, London to Uruguay
Leg 6, March- April 2020, Zhuhai, China to Seattle
Leg 7, April-June 2020, Seattle-Panama-New York
You can discover more about the Clipper race at www.clipperroundtheworld.com/about/about-the-race and from September you'll be able to follow the race as it happens using the Race Viewer at https://www.clipperroundtheworld.com/race/standings - but be warned, you may find yourself signing up for a leg or two!!
Whilst the motivation to take on this amazing adventure is largely personal - to challenge myself outside of medicine, to test my limits, stretch my boundaries, learn new skills, make new friends & see how far I can go, it also to raise awareness & support of two issues that I care deeply about - marine sustainability & child poverty.
Team Seattle will be championing the importance of marine health & ocean sustainability. We’ll be carrying out wildlife surveys, water sampling experiments & leading the way on minimising the environmental impact when sailing across an ocean.
UNICEF UK is a fantastic organisation that provides much-needed help & support to children both in the UK and across the globe. It is the charity partner for the race & I am working hard to raise as much as I can to support the great work they do. UNICEF UK not only ensures more children receive the medical care, vaccinations, education & protection they need but also defend their rights & help them achieve their potential. I can’t think of a more fitting collaboration between Clipper Round the World Yacht Race and UNICEF UK - it’s a privilege to be associated with them both.
Donating through JustGiving is simple fast & totally secure. Your details are safe & they’ll never sell them or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, your money is sent directly to UNICEF UK.
Your support, encouragement & generosity, whether that be by a donation or sharing my adventure & fundraising challenge into your network, is hugely appreciated.
