Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
The spectre of taking the red pill and dropping out of the matrix of normal city life -- having a job, a roof over your head, money to buy food with -- is always lurking behind us. And as we have seen in recent seismic changes in the financial world, nobody is so secure they can't hit the ground.
Shelter is doing some good work to help people who've dropped through the bottom of the matrix and could do with help to get off the ground again.
This month is the 5th anniversary of the funeral of Ushi, a homeless woman who died of pneumonia in the street where I lived in West Hampstead, so this run is a kind of commemoration her. (See www.peterblloyd.org/Shelter.htm)
I saw the the poster for Vertical Rush and thought, "What a wonderfully crazy idea" -- and immediately signed up. I am always late for trains, so I am incessantly running around the city, up and down stairs and escalators in underground and overground. Running up the 900 steps of the tallest building in London was irresistibly cool.
So ... what exactly is Vertical Rush? Well, at staged times during the day of 19th March, fundraising individuals and teams will run up the 900 steps of Tower 42 in the City of London as fast as they can. I'll be joining the 7:30 am vertical run, before heading off to work ...
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Shelter gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Thanks,
Peter
