Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Four years ago I had a radical prostatectomy for locally advanced prostate cancer. I thought I had been "cured" but cancer recurrence was confirmed this February.
My Oncologist recommended that I start hormone therapy and radiotherapy at the earliest opportunity. I deferred RT and elected to delay taking the HT as I had a Best for Age place in the Bath Half and the London Marathon and was aiming for a fast time (for my age!).
My training had been progressing well but on 10 March (7 weeks before the Marathon) my legs stopped working properly due to sciatica. I was unable to run for the subsequent 5 weeks. At 4 weeks to go I gave up hope of getting to the start line and started on the HT. So, 16 days before Marathon Day I tried to run and managed an uncomfortable 6 miles. I managed 3 runs in the last week including a slow 16 miler. With a week to go I have now committed to be on the start line!
PCUK has been a great support to me, when I was originally diagnosed 4 years ago and recently now my cancer has come back. I am now running with the aim to raise funds for this fantastic charity.
Sport has helped my through some difficult times in the last few years. It has provided a distraction and given me the determination to get through the hard times. I will use this determination to help me through the next few months of treatment and to get to the finish line in London.
Finish or not, I hope you can support me by donating to this cause.
