We support people with Spinal Cord Injury to help them live full, independent lives

Story

My support since 2010 for the Aspire Charity continues with a slightly different personal challenge in 2021, which is to swim back from the Sealand platform in the North Sea to the Suffolk coast.

Having previously participated in seven Channel relays (six for Aspire, all but one of which made it to France), I wanted to take on a greater individual challenge whilst taking into consideration my advancing years and a variety of medical conditions.

The Sealand Principality is about 8 miles offshore, which is the farthest nonstop swim I've ever undertaken. It will take a considerable amount of preparation and acclimatisation to safely complete this tidal journey, which will follow strict Channel rules.

Now approaching my mid-sixties, Aspire enables me every year to enjoy my passion for open water and sea swimming. It’s therefore a delight to fundraise for Aspire in return - please donate whatever you can for this fantastic cause.

If choosing to donate through JustGiving, it is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.
