Story
Hi Everyone,
I've decided to enter this year's Parish Walk, an epic 85 mile yomp around the Isle of Man's seventeen Parishes! Having rolled my entry over from last year, I have been training since January and have racked up around 280 miles of walking so far, in all conditions and varying layers of clothes. All while trying to protect a dodgy right knee and battling various other issues, including some whopping blisters, a ganglion cyst on my left foot, a right calf muscle that's prone to feeling like a golf ball sometimes and a nail on my right big toe that's threatening to fail at any moment (nice!). My longest walk to date was 30 miles, so while i'm not sure going full distance will be possible, i'll see how things go on the day and will go for as long as I can. I'm up for the challenge anyway!
My nominated Charity for this year's walk is Isle Listen, and i'm doing the walk in support of them as well as for the Captains of Castletown Golf Club (i've been a member there since 1998), who have nominated Isle Listen as their Charity for fund raising in 2021. I am aiming to hopefully raise £1500 from the Walk.
To Peel - and beyond (hopefully)!
I hope to give anyone wishing to support me via making a donation through this site value for money and my aim is to try and get to Peel which is 32.5 miles from the start in Douglas. Any donations, small or large will be going to a worth cause and are very much appreciated. This page on Just Giving will remain open until 26th June.
About Isle Listen
Isle Listen (www.islelisten.im) is a charitable initiative that provides support and training in schools, the workplace and community, helping people to recognise that mental health is just as important as physical health. Their work is focused on providing education, prevention strategies and transformative early intervention, to avoid the unnecessary escalation of mental health problems and help to alleviate pressure on the statutory services. Their aim is for everybody in the Isle of Man to feel emotionally empowered and effectively supported with their mental health. The experiences of the last 12-18 months and varying periods of lockdown have brought mental health issues across all age ranges firmly to the fore, probably in a way that none of us has previously appreciated so I do feel that i'm helping to raise funds for a very worthy charity.
How to follow me on the day
My entry number on the day is 1245 and i'll be walking in the various colours of Queens Park Rangers FC so if you are here spectating and you see a blue and white hooped shirt or a red shirt or a pink shirt (very fetching 2018 away kit) go by it will most likely be me! Wherever you are you can track my progress on the Parish Walk website (www.parishwalk.com) and then click on 'Live Timing 2021'. This will provide updates on all the 1,700 competitors as they make their way through the Parishes and you’ll be able to see (in real time) how i'm getting on. The race starts at 8am and if all goes well I reckon i'll be passing through Peel between 3pm and 3.30pm.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR SUPPORT
All the best,
Peter
