Story
I am participating in a charity bike ride in memory of a great friend of mine, Jon Seymour. OK it's only 35 miles but it does include part of the Olympic route, pass several pubs and Jon would have loved it!
For those of you who don't know, Jon died due to a tumour in his brain that had not been found in any of his scans. He was diagnosed with Stomach Cancer only last May and died suddenly in August due to Brain Tumours.
Jon's widow, Jane, is organising the charity bike ride and her reasons are below:-
"Jon loved cycling and one of the reasons for him moving to Reigate was the easy access to cycle routes around here. He was hoping to do the London to Brighton bike ride again this year and even when he got diagnosed he was determined to do it!!! And so because he can't, I thought maybe many of us could! Not London to Brighton exactly, but around the roads that John loved to cycle."
Apparently, brain tumour research is dreadfully underfunded, here are some facts:-
- Brain tumour research receives less than 1% (0.7%) of national cancer research spending in the UK
- 20% of all cancers spread to the brain
- More people under 40 die of a brain tumour than from any other cancer (Jon was 40 years 8 months)
- Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children in the UK.
I am sure you all get loads of requests for sponsorship but every little helps.
Many thanks
Peter
