Story
Hi,
Our friend Philly Wilson from Castlerock Golf Club tragically passed away on 8th March after a 7 year battle with Cancer. He was genuinely one of the nicest guys you could meet on a days walked and was always smiling, laughing and bantering even though he was quietly suffering for years. He was only 37 and leaves his lovely fiance, wonderful parents and lovely sister Clare, amongst many others, with a huge hole in their lives.
To keep it brief, I'm running the Edinburgh "Rock n Roll" half marathon on 14th and would like to dedicate the race to the of memory Big Phil whilst also raising awareness, and of course cricial funds, for his chosen charity - Sarcoma UK.
He suffered a rare type of Cancer called Sarcoma;
C. 3800 new cases of sarcoma diagnosed each year in the UK.
Rare cancers that develop in the supporting or connective tissues of the body such as muscle, bone, nerves, cartilage, blood vessels and fat.
Sarcomas account for about 11% of childhood cancers and about 14% of cancers in teenagers.
Most sarcomas (about 55%) affect the limbs, most frequently the leg. About 15% affect the head and neck area or are found externally on the trunk,.
