On Sunday 3rd October I'll be stepping up to the Start line at Belfast City Marathon with my Guide 'Jennifer' to raise money for Northern Ireland Hospice.
I sadly lost my dad 'Billy' to Cancer at the start of the year. During his short illness, my dad received great support from Clare a nurse from NI Hospice. While you can never fully prepare for the devastating impact Cancer can have, some comfort can be found knowing that someone who cares, understands and can support in those sad final days and hours.
By running the Marathon and raising money for NI Hospice, I'll help ensure that someone can avail of invaluable support from a nurse like Clare in their time of need.
To date training has gone well, although the long runs are tough both physically and mentally, but the encouragement I've had from my Parkrun Guide 'Susan' and fellow runners at Monkstown Spartans has kept me going. I know they will be with me every step on the day and I will cross the line knowing I've given it my all and that my dad would be very proud.
Thank you for your support.
